Early Naval Officer's Eagle Head Pommel Short Saber with Scabbard. Curved blade with wide partial fuller on both sides. Blade engraved with Liberty cap and stand of arms on one side and a patriotic eagle on the other. Original leather washer at top between blade and guard. Gilt brass hilt was counterguard on right side and chased eagle head pommel. Ring at top of knuckle bow near intersection with pommel. Reeded ivory grip. Complete with its original black leather scabbard with gilt brass mounts.

The blade is quite wide with a pronounced curve reminiscent of a scimitar, but is shorter than most. Almost like an oversized dirk.

24 3/4 inch Blade retains a mostly grey patina with traces of blue and gilt decoration. Hilt retains a dark mustard patina with about 30-40% original gilt finish. Grip shows some smoothed minor chipping around pommel. Scabbard shows some minor surface cracks and scuffing, drag is absent. Other mounts retain generous amounts of gilt finish. An attractive Federal American sword.
