1860 Dated Artillery Saber By Ames - Virginia Contract. This is believed to be one of 300 sabers contracted by Ames delivered to the State of Virginia in 1860. A larger number of cavalry sabers were delivered under the same contract by Ames.
It is only the second one I've observed and it is the best for condition. The only visible marking is the date '1860'. It is totally devoid of US inspector marks.
