Confederate Socket Bayonet
Confederate Socket Bayonet dug somewhere in Virginia. These are believed to be a product of the Raleigh (N.C.) Bayonet Factory. Some of the thin metal at the socket is missing and there is pitting throughout. 18 1/2-inch full length blade. 3/4-inch socket opening indicates production for a Richmond or other 1855 pattern musket. These are readily distinguishable from their US or foreign counterparts by virtue of the unfluted, triangular blade.
