Rare Charlotte, N.C. Parole - Terry's Texas Rangers
Product Code: CCR3375

Rare Confederate parole for Private R.W. Parham Co. C., 8th Texas Cavalry - Terry's Texas Rangers.

Little is known about R.W. Parham's Confederate service. He appears on a muster roll dated May 3, 1865 stating that he was paroled at Charlotte and had been temporarily assigned to headquarters. However, he was enlisted in an elite Texas cavalry unit that was considered one of the best in the Army of the Tennessee. Terry's Texas Rangers exploits are well documented. Respected among Southerners and feared by Yankees.

Parham's parole is signed by Col. Henry M. Ashby of the 2nd TN cavalry. The colonel enlisted on July 6, 1861 and fought hard with the CS cavalry being wounded at Murfreesboro, then serving for the duration.

The document itself has some staining but is very ledgible. The text is identical to Greensboro issued paroles. The vertical folds have been repaired with archival tape. It measures 8 1/2 X 4 1/4 inches.

An extremely rare Terry's Texas Ranger's parole for a soldier who was one of about 30 to surrender out of 1170 who enlisted at the beginning. Signed by a Colonel H.M. Ashby who was wounded at Murfreesboro - commanded a company at age 21 - a regiment at 22 - a brigade at 24 and a division at 25. Rare.
