Confederate Cavalry Saber With Flat Blade. Maker unknown but believed by most to be a Virginia manufacturer. Like most Confederate enlisted man's cavalry sabers it is based on the US Model 1840 Dragoon Saber.

33-inch flat blade. Blade is smooth grey with staining and isolated patches of pitting. Brass hilt with copper wire and leather grip with some losses most apparent on bottom side. There is no play in hilt. Scabbard has attributes typical of Confederate manufacture. It is quite crude even by Confederate standards. Constructed of iron with brass throat, ring mounts and drag. A bold seam is visible along entire length of scabbard. A fine, affordable example.
