Rare South Carolina Surcharged US Model 1816 Pistol by Simeon North. 54 caliber, smoothbore 9 1/16 inch barrel with standard 'US' over 'P' marking and a well struck 'S.CAROLINA' surcharge. This mark is rarely seen on this model and almost never seen in original flint such as this.

Most of the iron hardware has visible inspectors marks including the screw heads of the butt plate, lock escutcheon, frizzen and frizzen spring. Stock markings include one clearly visible outline of a cartouche and one other barely visible. A block 'L' appears in the stock just forward of the escutcheon plate.

All iron parts have a nice untocuhed rust patina. Barrel has some pitting at rear of barrel band and that usually encountered at the touch hole. Lock is in original fline with good markings. Stocks have a hand worn patina with iron staining and minor cracks at butt and lock escutcheon. Mainspring and ramrod are replacements.
