Confederate Frame Buckle & Belt picked up many years ago on the Antietam Battlefield. Has period tag identifying the belt rig as a 'Confederate Cavalry Belt' and Sharpsburg, MD in old brown ink.

There is also a detailed letter from the collector who purchased it during the centennial over 50 years ago.

The plate is typical of general issue Confederate frame buckles issued in large quantities to CS troops. It measures 60x70 mm. The patina is very dark, almost black. One side of the plate is more corroded from being in contact with the leather all these years.

23 inches of the original belt remains. Although it remains flexible it is pretty fragile with cracking and crazing.

This is a wonderful Confederate relic from one of the most important battles of the Civil War.
